Prior to 1800, Nappanee was the home to Miami and Potawatomi Indians. In 1830, the first white settlers came to the area, and by 1870 there were 7 farms in what is now Nappanee. The population was nearly 40….the Coppes and Mutschler families provided a way to make a living, making cabinets and furniture.
This has led to Nappanee being known as “The Kitchen Capital of the World”!
In the last 140 years, Nappanee has grown to house and support a diverse and progressive population of 6500.
